Volunteer Opportunities
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School continues to rely upon the talents and resources of our families to assist with many of our activities. We ask each St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School family to offer volunteer hours each school year. The HSA (Parent Association) assists parents in connecting them with volunteer opportunities. Volunteer hours can be fulfilled through involvement in any one of the many HSA fundraisers or family fun events, as well as through recess, lunchroom, hot lunch, or library duty. Of course, all volunteering offers a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with other school families.
Volunteer Training: All volunteers must be Virtus trained. To complete the required Virtus training: go to www.virtus.org
Parents with children in Grades K-8 are requested to volunteer 30 hours per family. Parents with a child only in PreK4 are requested to volunteer 15 hours per family.
Alternatively, parents have the option of making a financial contribution in lieu of their hours at $20/hour.Parent volunteers are requested to complete a Family Volunteer Hour Summary (link) and submit it to the school office once they have completed their hours.
Library: Parent volunteers are needed to assist throughout the school year with reading books to the children, filing, carding, typing, mending and shelving books, checking in new materials, locating information and assisting classes in the use of the library for children.
New Family Mentors
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School likes to welcome each of the new students with a friendly face and a wealth of information. We match incoming families with current families that can help them make the transition as smoothly as possible, with advice on everything from uniforms to volunteer opportunities. We recruit mentor families towards the end of the year, and host a new family social mid-August.Recess Monitors: Volunteers are needed to attend recess to help teachers monitor children. This is a once or twice a month commitment between approximately 11:15-12:50. In order to give your full attention to the students, you may not bring younger siblings.
Lunch Room Monitors: Volunteers are needed to assist children in the lunch room. This is a once or twice a month commitment between approximately 11:15-12:50. In order to give your full attention to the students, you may not bring younger siblings.
