Community Service

text

In 2016, St. Thomas was named one of the “Kindest Schools in America.” Although the award may have been given years ago, its relevance today remains strong. Being recognized for kindness is more than a moment in time—it is a reflection of a school culture rooted in empathy, respect and service. Today, we continue to focus on fostering a culture of kindness which requires intentional efforts, community involvement and a commitment to creating environments where all students feel valued and supported.

From a young age, students are encouraged to look beyond themselves and make a positive impact in the community. Service opportunities include a monthly school-wide pantry project and service days. At a grade level, classes organize food and clothing drives, prepare care packages and letters, visit the elderly and aid local shelters. St. Thomas students also support many community events.

By actively engaging in service, students grow in character and develop a deeper understanding of their role in the world, learning that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

The Kindness Crew Club gives students in Grades 4–8 the opportunity to lead with heart. Meeting twice monthly during the school day, students plan and implement school-wide kindness initiatives, service projects, appreciation activities, and buddy programs that strengthen our community. Kindness Crew helps students grow as confident leaders while reinforcing the values of compassion, service, and respect that define St. Thomas.
