Running Programs
test
St. Thomas' running programs are designed to help students discover a sense of achievement, power of perseverance and value of camaraderie. Through our Cross-Country Team, Track & Field Team and Running Club students in K through 8th grade have multiple opportunities to be active, set personal goals and develop lifelong healthy habits.
Cross-Country Team
The Cross-Country Team kicks off in the fall, welcoming runners of all levels in 5th through 8th grade. Students train twice a week for distance races typically ranging from one to two miles, and compete on varied terrain at meets hosted by local schools. Practices focus on endurance, pacing, stretching and mental toughness, while also teaching students to support and encourage one another—whether they finish first or last.
Track & Field Team
In the spring, the Track & Field Team introduces students in 5th through 8th grade to a range of events including sprints, distance runs, relays and more. The Track & Field Team encourages students to explore different disciplines and discover their strengths. Practices and meets with other local Catholic schools emphasize skill development, technique and positive competition.
Running Club
St. Thomas operates a Running Club in the spring through its Beyond the Bell program. The Running Club is a non-competitive, inclusive option for younger students, starting as early as kindergarten, who want to be active. The Running Club meets weekly on the school track and focuses on casual runs and walks, basic form, stretching and fitness games. It’s perfect for students who are new to running or want to build stamina in a fun, social environment.
