Unleash the Wildcat Spirit

"BUILDING SPIRIT THROUGH SPORTS" VIDEO

At St. Thomas, we aim to create a safe, supportive environment where every student—regardless of skill level—feels encouraged to try new things, work collaboratively and strive for continuous improvement. This begins with the school day and our robust physical education program that introduces students to a variety of activities and sports, while making every gym class a positive and energetic experience.

St. Thomas operates a highly successful Athletics Program featuring interscholastic teams and clubs. We believe that providing the opportunity for sports fosters physical health, confidence and life skills that extend far beyond the playing field. St. Thomas' Athletics Program plays a key role in boosting school spirit by bringing students together through exciting games, team pride and energizing pep rallies that celebrate our community. The Athletics Program is led by our Athletics Director with support from a Sports Committee made up of volunteer parents. A majority of our coaches and volunteers who champion our programs are parents in the school. For a small school, our Athletics Program packs a big punch, from basketball and golf to tennis and skiing. There is something for everyone!

In addition, our Beyond the Bell program provides opportunities for Pre-K through 8th grade students to engage in age-appropriate competition, skill development, team-building and play through numerous sports offerings.

Guiding Principles of the Athletics Program

Learning

To cultivate a positive environment and encourage student-athletes to improve in their selected sports while learning to work together as a team.

Respect

To teach student-athletes to respect everyone they encounter in their athletic endeavors: coaches / leaders, teammates, opponents, referees, parents and fans.

Sportsmanship

To impress upon student-athletes what “sportsmanship” involves: ethical, appropriate, polite, caring and fair behavior, playing by the rules and being gracious in winning as well as in losing.

Participation

To ensure that every student has the chance to take part in athletics. regardless of skill level or prior experience. All students are welcomed to grow in confidence, make friends and find joy through sports.

Success

To help student-athletes understand that success has many definitions. Winning is an important measure of success, but it is not the only one. Personal improvement and achieving shared team goals are equally important.

Solidarity

To encourage student-athletes to build community not only within their grade but across the school. Together, we can build school spirit and enrich student life through increased engagement of students, faculty, parents and the community at large.
