Spanish Class

At St. Thomas, we believe that learning a language opens doors to new cultures, perspectives and opportunities. Our dynamic World Languages program begins in Pre-K and builds a strong foundation in both French and Spanish through 4th grade. Students enjoy one semester of each language, allowing them to explore the structure, sounds and cultural richness of both languages.

Starting in 5th grade, students select either French or Spanish as their focus language. From there, they participate in engaging, immersive instruction four times a week, designed to build fluency, cultural understanding and communication skills. Our curriculum emphasizes speaking, listening, reading and writing, supported by interactive projects, cultural celebrations and real-world connections.

Our graduates consistently excel in high school language courses, often placing into advanced levels upon entering 9th grade. Many students achieve impressive results in national language competitions, including top scores in the Grand Concours (National French Contest), reflecting the strength and depth of their learning experience.

The Jeunes Amis Du Français (JAF) is the National French Honor Society for elementary and middle school students. Our chapter offers students the opportunity to deepen their appreciation of French language and Francophone cultures through engaging activities, cultural events and service projects. Students can take on leadership roles by serving as club officers, organizing charter events and directing initiation.
