The heart of St. Thomas’ mission is a commitment to nurturing a culture of faith through a rich, holistic and developmentally appropriate religious education program. Our program not only includes classes in religion / theology but also active engagement in First Friday Masses, special gatherings and daily prayer. A central focus of our overall religious program is the cultivation of stewardship, kindness and service to others. Students are encouraged to see the dignity in every person and to respond with empathy and generosity. Throughout the year, opportunities for service within the school and broader community, as well as consistent expectations for how students interact with peers, teachers and others, foster a vibrant culture where faith is not only learned but lived.
Beginning in the elementary years, our curriculum introduces students to the foundational stories of the Bible, nurturing an early sense of wonder, love and connection to God. Young learners are gently guided through the stories of creation, Noah, Moses and other key figures, leading to an understanding of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The lives of the Saints are also explored as real-life examples of faith, courage and compassion, helping children see how they, too, can live out their faith in simple but meaningful ways.
As students progress, they develop a deeper understanding of core Catholic beliefs and practices with their underlying documents and traditions. This includes an introduction to the sacraments, the structure and meaning of the Mass, the Ten Commandments and key elements of Catholic Social Teaching. In addition, we explore and introduce other world religions, fostering respect for all faith traditions.
St. Thomas hosts a weekly Parents’ Prayer Group that gathers in the morning to pray together for the intentions of students, faculty and the broader community. This time of shared prayer offers spiritual support and fellowship for parents, while also serving as a powerful example to our students of the importance of faith, community and prayer.
