2010 Letter re: Parent Volunteers Needed
1. What exactly is Basket Bonanza?
Basket Bonanza is one of two major St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School fundraising events sponsored by the HSA. 100% of the proceeds from this event are used for the sole benefit of our school and our students. The day begins with an auction style pre-sale event open to the general public with an evening celebration of cocktails, light fare, live and silent auctions. Basket Bonanza raffle ticket chances are sold for $2.00 each with prizes ranging in value up to $1000.
2. Where do the baskets and auction prizes come from?
Basket Bonanza relies on the participation and donations of our school families. Some baskets contain more than one item totaling $100 or more. For example, an evening in NYC Basket may contain theatre tickets, hotel stay, and dinner at a local restaurant. Some donations are designated as silent or live auction items and are bid on at the evening event. Also, volunteer parents solicit various merchants/companies for additional donations while a large part of the silent auction consists of class projects from our St. Thomas students.
3. How are the children involved and what is the pre-sale?
The children will be creating class projects to be auctioned off at the evening event. Created under the direction of our volunteer parents and class project chairperson, these projects promise to be a highlight of the event and a source of pride for every child. Children and their friends/family are also welcome at the daytime Pre-Sale. You may bring your child, friends, and family to view all the baskets and take chances on their favorites on the day of the event. Winners will be selected that evening and contacted on Sunday morning to pick up their winnings. All the names of people purchasing tickets are recorded for Sunday’s phone calls. This is a great way to get the children, grandparents, friends, etc. to be part of the fun! A very large percentage of our winning tickets have been sold during the Pre-Sale event.
4. When do I need to have my donations ready?
We need all donations in advance for organizational purposes and more importantly for the production of the program book. The program book will contain a description of each donation. This book will familiarize you with the items you may want to take chances on or bid on at the Basket Bonanza. Donations may be submitted to the event Chairperson at any time during the school year.
5. When do I buy tickets to the evening event?
Invitations will be mailed to all St. Thomas School Families and any requested guests. Tickets will be $35.00 per person and include an open bar, light fare and dessert.
6. How can I volunteer to help?
Many volunteers are needed to help with basket coordinating, raffle ticket sales, decorations, invitations, class projects, publicity and much, much more. If you would like to join a sub-committee please watch for the meeting announcements or contact a Basket Bonanza Chairperson.
