Computer Curriculum
(Kindergarten–Grade 8)

At St. Thomas Aquinas, technology is integrated with all subject areas and grade levels from K-8. Technology is not taught as a stand-alone curriculum, but an extension, enrichment and integral aspect of all subject areas. Technology allows our faculty and students to interact and create with our core curriculum, and taps into their inherent love of learning.
SmartBoards and minilabs are used in the classrooms in the primary grades to teach basic concepts. Web sites, software, and tech tools allow us to bring English Language Arts, math and science concepts to life in an interactive, grade appropriate way. In the middle school, students use technology to build their information literacy skills such as evaluating websites and using effective web-based search strategies. Students do project-based work to build critical thinking and communication skills. Teachers build writing and editing skills using technology. Interactive whiteboards and laptops allow the use of technology in a variety of settings from computer lab to whole-class activities to one-to-one computing in the classroom.
Since the 2006-2007 school year, teachers and students have been working with Educate LLC on a weekly basis to provide in-class, hands-on technology training. This collaborative effort has engaged students and teachers and demonstrated the power of technological tools. |
